Fugitive roundup corrals six

Little said the department has filed for "about a dozen" new escape warrants to replace those that vanished. More new warrants are likely.

He said the state has found no single cause of their disappearance. In some cases, it appears warrants were never filed after an escape. Others apparently were purged as law enforcement agencies moved from paper-based systems to computerized networks.

More than 80 additional state inmates imprisoned in local jails have escaped over the past 25 years and remain at large.

The state Department of Correction has insisted that the responsibility of finding those escapees falls on local sheriffs' offices, but Little said Tuesday that the state is working with several counties to rectify "some individual situations we have identified" in which warrants don't exist.

Bedard: The Day After…

Though it should pain fans to hear this, it's nothing but the truth. I know we want our guys to stay loyal and love where they play; however, the bottom line is that any professional athlete wants to win, and if they have the chance to go to a winning team, they'll bolt.

More importantly, he's out of a tough AL East, and now is on a contender.

Here's what he said about being a key pitcher on Seattle's staff:

In typical Bedard fashion, he was understated and said he didn't care whether he or Hernandez was called the Mariners' ace.

"He was here first. I don't see why I should take his place. I don't care if I'm No. 1 or No. 5, just as long as I don't get skipped in the rotation," Bedard said, adding: "This is a great feeling. It's never fun to be on a team that's rebuilding.

But Dobson didn't say who evangelical voters should vote for, leaving many to guess. And on Tuesday, in many cases, like chose like.

Meanwhile, in California: Cynthia McKinney takes a dive Wednesday, February 6, 2008, 12:58 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

While Hillary Clinton was muscling through a big win in California on Tuesday, Cynthia McKinney was getting trounced by Ralph Nader in that state's Green Party presidential primary.

Nader took 61 percent of the vote.

The Caucus Men

Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and Washington. Mrs. Clinton, by contrast, has won but a single caucus: in Nevada. She also has a slight lead in New Mexico's Feb. 5 caucus, in which provisional ballots are still being counted.

Blogger Kevin Drum offers some explanations for Obama's caucus advantage:

Caucuses require organization and Obama was better organized. They require enthusiasm and he has more enthusiastic supporters. They require time, and his demographic has more free time. They're mostly in small states, and Obama targeted small states. They're dominated by activists, and activists tend to support Obama. To put it another way, caucuses require that a candidate's support be deep, while primaries require that it be broad.
