Leader Ventures Provides $3 Million to Syndero, Inc., a Next ...
MENLO PARK, Calif., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Leader Ventures, an investment firm offering tailored debt and equity financing, announced today that it has provided $3 million of venture debt to Syndero, Inc. Syndero is a next generation consumer goods company that primarily markets health and beauty products direct-to-consumer through online distribution channels. "Syndero is an innovative company with a leading edge, subscription-based, direct sales model," said Patrick Gordan, Managing Partner at Leader Ventures. Wal-Mart expands in-store health clinics with own brand
Edwards said putting Wal-Mart's name on the clinics also fits with the retailer's drive for a public role in health care to counter union-led criticism that it skimps on employee health insurance. Wal-Mart has introduced the clinics as well as $4 prescriptions for some generic medicines, and Chief Executive Lee Scott pledged last month to find other ways to help cut health care costs, including promoting the use of electronic health records instead of paper files. .

ACTU pleads for rate rise amnesty
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is being urged to consider the plight of working families when deciding whether to increase interest rates this week. Analysts say higher than expected December quarter inflation figures and solid domestic demand give the RBA a strong case to increase interest rates at its board meeting in Sydney tomorrow. If the bank's board does decide to raise rates, they will be at their highest level in 12 years. The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) says low and middle income families cannot afford another rise, and the RBA should hold rates at current levels until the full impact of the global financial situation becomes clearer. ACTU president Sharan Burrow says many families already have their finances stretched to the limit by mortgages, credit cards and other loans, and the RBA should look at other economies.
